Cool Japanese Stuff

Fould some awesome Japanese stuff here!

Unuzukin: A Unazukin looks like a small "fairy" averaging 5 cms (2 inches) high. They are reminiscent of a nesting Matryoshka doll, and have a retro/popart style decoration. Some models are voice activated and react to voice, nodding and shaking their head. Battery powered with an on/off switch, they have four different movements, shaking head back and forth once or twice; and nodding once or twice. From the toy-maker:

Unazukin is a special friend who is always ready to listen to you and give advice. She loves to hear your stories and for you to share your thoughts with her. She is very wise and knowledgeable and loves nothing more than for you to ask her questions. What will be her reply? A simple 'Yes' or 'No'. or something more definite?

Unazukin Pics:

Poika: Can't really tell what these are, but it looks like you talk to them and they pop out of the candle thing.

Princess Academy Project

Everybody in my class had to do a project on a Newbery Award-winning book. I chose Princess Academy by Shannon Hale. Here's the synopsis:

High on the side of rocky Mount Eskel, far from the valleys where gardens are green and lush, where lowlanders make laws, Miri’s family has lived forever, pounding a living from the stone of the mountain itself. For as long as she can remember, Miri has dreamed of working alongside the other villagers in the quarries of her beloved mountainside. But Miri has never been allowed to work there, perhaps, she thinks, because she is so small. Then word comes from the valley that the king's priests have divined Mount Eskel to be the home of the prince’s bride-to-be—the next princess. The prince himself will travel to the village to choose her, but first all eligible girls must attend a makeshift mountain academy to prepare themselves for royal lowlander life. At the school, Miri soon finds herself confronted by bitter competition among the girls and her own conflicting desires to be chosen by the prince. Yet when danger comes to the academy and threatens all their lives, it is Miri, named for a tiny mountain flower, who must find a way to save her classmates—and the one chance to leave the mountain each of them is determined to secure as her own. From acclaimed author Shannon Hale comes a richly imagined new novel about would-be princesses and one small but determined girl's destiny.

Sorry, I know that was long. But here's what I'm supposed to do for the project: 10 Vocab words from the book with definitions. CHECK. 17 Critical thinking questions over the book. HALF CHECK. Special Project (I'm doing a collage about Miri) NOT-CHECK. And, Character Synopsis NOT-CHECK. And original cover design. NOT CHECK. So, I, Little Miss Procrastination, waited until tonight, the day before the project is due, to finish all this.

PROCRASTINATORS UNITE!!! Tomorrow........

LOTR Practice and Tokyo Schoolgirl Inferno

The practice went well, but Clayton was popping up everywhere. He was a little hyped up. I'm not sure why though. Today's style: Manba and Ganguro. And yes, these girls are really Japanese.

Elliot and Soky

My friends from school, Elliot and Soky are coming over today to practice clarinet. I play flute, and we're playing Lord of the Rings songs for the talent show. We auditioned and made it. Soky's riding the bus home with me. But for some mysterious reason, Elliot has to go home first...... Hmmm.... Anyways, I thought it would be cool to get in, but now I almost wish we hadn't.

Indy 500

My choir, the ICC had to sing for the Indy 500 Parade today. It was awful! First, we have to be at Butler U by 7:00 A.M. I had to wake up at 5! Julienne from Dancing with the stars sang. Marlee, Drew, Sabrina, and some guy who looked like Helio but wasn't were there too. Julienne isn't a very good singer, and I wish she would've danced instead. Then the other Dancing people were being annoting. They didn't listen to us. They just took pictures of one another and mocked Mr. Leck (the ICC director.) Uggggghhhh! It was awful!

Cool Sketches

I figured out how to make photos look like sketches on Photoshop. Check it out!

Want to learn how it's done? Well, I guess I'll tell ya.

First, open Photoshop. Pick a file you like. I picked this picture:

Then select Image- Adjust- Brightness/Contrast I usually set the contrast to about 50 or 60

Then, go to Image- Adjust- Desaturate Now the image is black and white.

Make a copy of the image by going to the layers pallette and right clicking on the layer. Select Duplicate layer. Now you will work on the duplicate.
Now, go to Image- Adjust- Invert

Now you will go to a drop down box on the layers pallette that should say Normal. Change it to Color Dodge. Now your image looks like this:

After that, go to Filter- Blur- Gaussian Blur
Then you end up with that sketchy look!
Hope you found this cool and helpful! Bye!
